Information is based on taste test winners at Dave Wilson Nursery, Santa Clara Valley chapter of the Calif. Rare Fruit Growers, Andy Mariani, Master Gardeners, Sonoma Antique Apple Nursery and UCSC Agroecology Farm and personal experience growing over 60 varieties of fruits in San Jose.

APPLES
Akane, Ashmead's Kernel, Braeburn, Claygate Pearmain, Cox's Orange Pippin, Empire, Fortune, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Hudson Golden Gem, Jonagold, Jonathan, Mutsu, Newtown Pippin, and Swaar.

MAIL ORDER SOURCES FOR FRUIT & NUT TREES

Many of these varieties are hard to find, so be sure to call ahead to your favorite nursery to check and ask about special ordering for the future. Most of the difficult to find varieties will be available at the California Rare Fruit Growers’ Annual Scion Exchange where you will find hundreds of varieties of non-patented varieties of fruit scion wood for grafting that often will not be found elsewhere.
