The 18th Annual Spring Garden Market
History San Jose, 1650 Senter Road, San Jose
Join us at beautiful History San Jose for our premier plant sale, sustainable gardening showcase and fair (Directions | Parking Map)
Loyal fans have been coming for years for the 75+ varieties of tomatoes and 100+ varieties of peppers, and now you can pick up beans, eggplant, collards, lettuce and other greens, Chinese broccoli, amaranthus and kohlrabi - and strawberries.
But wait there's more! We've expanded our offerings to include herbs and flowers.
Itching to start planning the garden? The descriptions of plants we sold in 2011 are tantalizing! The selections this year are mostly the same but we'll post soon the updated lists. One special new tomato: the hybrid purple tomato, Indigo Rose, bred for even higher levels of antioxidants.
But this day-long gala fun event has expanded to include literally dozens of short talks on gardening topics of every description. Feed your mind as well as feeding your family with delicious vegetables - and learn to feed the soil.
You'll love shopping at the booths of gardening supplies and clothes - and more plants!- not to mention raised beds, chicken coops, fertilizers, bee keeping equipment, gifts and so much more. The Master Gardeners sell our top ten favorite tools and books, determined by polling the 300+ certified Master Gardeners in Santa Clara County. Browse UC gardening references and pick up free pamplets and drop by the Green Elephant Sale - "From Our Garden Sheds to Yours!"(more ...)
Speaking of all those Master Gardeners - more than a hundred of our number will be on hand to talk with you about which variety of tomato or sunflower you might want to pick up, to steer you towards a talk or booth you're looking for and to talk with you about any gardening questions. Go ahead and bring a diseased plant (or leaf or branch) or bug, in a sealed plastic bag to show us and we'll help you ID it and decide what to do.
There are fun things to do all day, enjoyed by kids and adults both. Look at plants and bugs with a microscope at our Hotline table, and have fun with hands-on demos and games at Master Gardener tables. Hungry? This year six fabulous gourmet food trucks will be on hand for healthy food - including coffee all day - and the beloved hot dog cart.
See you on March 31! Bring your wheelbarrow :-) or a box, although we have boxes on hand for you to use. Cash or checks only; $3 or $4/plant, whether 4" container or 6-pack. We offer a Plant Daycare where you can leave your purchases as long as you like while you go to talks, shop the fair, have a snack or lunch, and explore History San Jose. A dozen beautifully restored historical buildings showcase the history of our area. We created in 2011 a demonstration garden at the Umbarger House and are eager to show that to you as well. We'll have talks there so you can come by for a talk and then tour the new garden and talk with Master Gardeners .
All in all, you do not want to miss this unique Santa Clara Valley fair. Silicon Valley meets the living heritage of the Valley of Heart's Delight - come find your tribe! Let's Garden Together!
