We will learn about pruning different types of fruit trees and why, how and when to prune for both structure, shape and fruit productions. Allen volunteers his skills at the Emma Prusch Farm Park's High Density Fruit Orchard where the trees are kept small and at a reduced height to make harvesting ladder-free! Master Gardener Milli Wright and friends will show us how to look through our gardens to find unusual items that can be incorporated into the wreaths. After a basic design lesson, and examples of other clever projects, you will be ready to create your own personal gift for your home. Winter is the perfect time to sign up for a pruning workshop with professional landscaper Sean McGrail. Sean will teach you how to prune truit trees and then you will gain hands-on experience by practicing your newly lerned techniques on Guadalupe River Park & Garden's Historic Orchard. The Historic Orchard is a 3.3-acre site planted in 1994 to showcase the varieties of fruit trees that once made the Santa Clara valley famous as the "Valley of Heart's Delight." The orchard contains over 220 fruit and nut trees, including cherries, apricots, prunes, apples and more. The orchard is located in Guadalupe Gardens just south of Taylor Streets and adjacent to the River Park trails. Parking is available at Seymour Street parking lot.
